During a particularly good run, I got this crazy idea to run a half marathon every month for a year. Then... I thought 13.1miles for 13 months seemed like a better idea. Then... I decided that if I was going to run a half- marathon every month for 13 months, it needs to be for something significant. My last idea is to raise $1300, for the girls that want to be a Girl on the Run but cannot afford the program, in those 13 months that I am out there running.
After completing 7 of the 13 half marathons, I found out I had two hernias and a lot of other pelvic tears. I was advised to stop running and any other strenuous exercise for 3-4 months. Well- I did that. I am now ready to get back to reaching my goal of 13 half marathons and raising $1300.
Girls on the Run is an afterschool program for girls ages 8-14 that uses the power of running to inspire girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program combines training for a non-competitive 5k running event with interactive lessons that encourage positive social-emotional and physical development among participants. More than 65% of girls taking part in the program receive some sort of financial assistance to participate. All funds raised by the Girls on the Run SoleMates Team go to underwrite program scholarships so that any girl can participate in this life-changing programing, regardless of her family's ability to pay the program fee.
Together, let’s empower more girls !!!
