Girls on the Run is truly so much fun!
We have seen, firsthand, how the GOTR weekly lessons motivate girls and adults to live lives with true meaning, by teaching them to first take care of themselves so that they may be aware and prepared to do positive things in the world like standing up for others. GOTR also brings out the youthful, caring spirit in everyone who comes across the program; starting with the girls, to their families, the many volunteers and even further the communities which hosts the unique program and celebratory 5k events. A few of us staffers at GOTR HQ had a 'light bulb' moment as we reflected on GOTR and thought, "let's stop to revel in this 'GOTR goodness' by hosting a fun slumber party!"
Initially, we just wanted a chance to veg out and bond over something other than work. And from there an idea grew..to tie this directly to our Girls on the Run One in a Million campaign, as our way to congratulate GOTR for serving 1 million girls and to wish the organization well by raising awareness - as well as a few dollars. With the GOTR Slumber Wonder, we have three goals:
1) to raise money for Girls on the Run a program that has impacted our lives, and the lives of over 1 million girls, in a number of ways
2) to challenge ourselves, and our daily routine, by tapping into the young girls we used to be
3) to pay "it" forward (all the positive thoughts and ideas GOTR inspires in us)
Our GOTR Slumber Wonder will help us 'RECOGNIZE our POWER and RESPONSIBILITY to be INTENTIONAL in our decision making', by taking a break from the demands of adult life and just BE. And we're inviting the young girls in our lives to not only join in, but lead the way! One of whom is currently enrolled in the program :-) We will spend one weekend in May swimming, making s'mores, playing games and braiding hair, while incorporating an energetic brainstorming session to come up with, and complete, as many random acts of kindness that we can!! Taking a moment to nurture our spirit, uplift others and reinforce the notion that we can impact the world (or our neighborhood) CAN be accomplished in just 1 night!
PLEASE DONATE if you agree and would like to join our mission! Tell a friend! Tell two!!
Contribute to our goal of $500 to support this wonderful program so that we may continue to embolden the girls of our nation and beyond!!! Thank you :-)
GOTR girl, Lily (3rd grade):
"Girls on the run is important to me because all of the girls there are full of positivity and keep moving forward no matter what gets in their way! GOTR girls NEVER give up!!!!"
GOTR girl-to-be, Lena (2nd grade):
"My teacher is a GOTR coach and I think that she does so much work for our school and for girls on the run. They help girls who have been bullied and feel bad. We hope people will donate to help respect girls on the run and all the hard work they do like my teacher."
