Make a difference in a girl's life by becoming a coach! Applications are due by January 5, 2018. Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run Greater Hartford! At Girls on the Run, we offer life-changing, physical activity-based after-school programs for girls in 3rd through 6th grades throughout the Greater Hartford area and some parts of New Haven. Our goal is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. Our Spring 2018 season begins the week of February 26 and runs through May 19. As a coach (head, assistant, junior or substitute) you MUST be able to commit to attend in-person training as well as all 20 sessions of the program. The program times will vary by site, but they will begin as early as 2:00 p.m. and normally begin at 3:00 p.m. Please do not apply to be a coach if you cannot attend the program in the afternoons twice a week for 10 weeks. We have other volunteer opportunities for people who have work and family commitments in the afternoon.

About This Event

Each season Girls on the Run has a dynamic group of coaches that volunteer their time to guide and mentor girls so that they are prepared to become happy, healthy, self-confident adolescents and adults. Coaches need not be runners; they just need to be individuals that want to be a positive influence and who are committed to developing and celebrating our youth.

When you sign up to be a GOTR coach you’re signing up to change lives. Our coaches come from a range of backgrounds, professions and levels of experience. One thing they all have in common is a passion for helping girls grow. At GOTR we’re committed to equipping our coaches with the skills and knowledge they’ll need to lead their girls through a transformative season.

During training, which consists of one hour of online learning and five hours of in-person time, you’ll learn about building GOTR style relationships, creating an environment girls can thrive in and developing a climate in which all girls are celebrated for their personal growth. You’ll also get the chance to practice leading a GOTR lesson, meet other coaches, share your expertise and have some fun.

We look forward to seeing you there!
